OpenVision Method Training Course.

Course Length: 16 hours

The OpenVision Method Training Course is an interactive educational program specifically designed to train NDT technicians how to safely perform real-time radiography (RTR) utilizing the OpenVision HD and OpenVision DX real-time x-ray systems.

The OpenVision training course is held at QSA Global, Inc.’s OpenVision Learning Centers in La Porte, TX and Pilsen, Czech Republic.  The two-day course includes a combination of classroom instruction on the safe operation of OpenVision and hands-on practical sessions.

During the practical sessions, students will first demonstrate the safe setup and deployment of the OpenVision. Next, the instructor will train students to perform corrosion under insulation (CUI) inspections on our extensive network of insulated piping comprising of a broad range of CUI samples with known defects. The course concludes with a written and practical exam. At course completion, you will have demonstrated proficiency in quickly scanning insulated piping systems and performing accurate image analysis of indications of CUI and corrosion precursors, including scaling, pitting, external wall loss, and wet insulation. Weld mapping and heat trace location will also be covered.

Companies that own an OpenVision system are encouraged to send it in with their students for a complimentary service and inspection by QSA Global, Inc.’s certified technicians. Systems will also be available to rent for the course duration if your OpenVision is not available at the time of the course.

  • What are the course prerequisites?

Completion of a 40-hour radiation safety course.

  • Who is this course for?

This is an entry-level course for trained NDT radiographers who need to learn how to perform real-time radiography (RTR) using the OpenVision real-time x-ray system safely and effectively.

  • What will I be able to do after this course?

After taking the course, you will have a thorough understanding of real-time radiography (RTR) and how to safely use the OpenVision real-time x-ray system to quickly scan insulated piping systems and perform accurate image analysis of indications of corrosion (CUI) and corrosion precursors, including scaling, pitting, external wall loss, and wet insulation.

Upon successfully completing the written and practical exams, students will receive a training certificate confirming their proficiency in using OpenVision to perform RTR.

  • Who provides the training?

A QSA Global, Inc. authorized OpenVision instructor and expert in industrial radiography, approved by QSA Global, Inc.'s Radiation Protection & General Safety Committee (RPGSC), provides the training for this course.

  • What course materials & equipment is provided?

Companies that own a system are encouraged to send the unit in with their students for a complimentary service and inspection of the system by QSA’s certified technicians. Students will also use their OpenVision during the practical sessions to help them be proficient with their unique system, accessories, and the images they have collected.

The materials and equipment provided include:

    • OpenVision DX portable x-ray system (rental fee applies)
    • OpenVision HD portable x-ray system (rental fee applies)
    • An extensive network of insulated piping comprising a broad range of CUI samples with known defects
    • A course manual

  • How will I be tested?

    There are two elements:

    • written exam
    • practical exam

The trainer will be evaluating the operator to ensure the safe operation of the OpenVision real-time x-ray system and correct identification of corrosion by-products on a test standard.
  • What is the cancellation policy?
